Two more months left of art! As artists get back into creating, the month of April is full of themes. Fifth grade is getting to explore the world of drawing by using different mediums and techniques, such as grids, charcoal, and pencil. Fourth graders get to make projects based upon the theme of spooky monsters and characters inspired by other artists! Third graders will be working toward the fundamentals of art using line and pattern. Second graders get to finally work with clay, and explore the Ready-Mades of Art! First Graders and Kindergarteners are diving deeper into the color wheel. “Creativity takes courage” is a quote by Henri Matisse. Jefferson students are courageous! 

There are lots of fun things going on in music class right now! Kindergarten is learning about and playing many different classroom instruments, as well as playing some fun music games. The 1st graders are learning to play xylophones, as well as learning to sing fun new songs. 2nd and 3rd grade are playing music games and creating their own music on their Chromebooks. The 4th graders are very excited to be starting to learn how to play ukulele. And the 5th graders just finished with keyboards and are starting to create their own music using different programs on their Chromebooks.

FORWARD EXAM TESTING REMINDERS! 

Please have your student’s chromebook charged every day and with them at school. Also, please remember that no electronics are allowed during testing, including smartwatches and cellphones. Additionally, please remember that students will need a pair of wired headphones or wired earbuds for the state tests. Please have your students bring a pair from home if at all possible.

  Math Corner with Mrs. Reuter

Happy April everyone! Many times families have asked questions on how to help their child at home in the area of math. This is a great question and the answer is different for every single child. Each child is often in a developmental stage of learning that may or may not be different from his or her classmates. As guardians, we are at the higher level of the progression of mathematical learning.  It is important to remember that each individual is on their own learning path and there are developmental steps that children go through on this journey. 

The resource this month is from Graham Fletcher. He has developed a video collection that takes us through the progression of learning across math concepts throughout the grade levels. On his website there are five videos that take us through the progression of learning of Early Number and Counting, Addition and Subtraction, Division, Multiplication and Fractions. Please take a look at these short videos that are so powerful for us in helping our students. As always, your classroom teacher will be able to offer you insight on the support your child needs wherever they are in the learning progression.
