December 2020
Happy holidays! This is a wonderful time of year, but can also be very busy as well as stressful. As the adults scurry around preparing for the excitement of the holidays, children can also feel the stress and exhaustion brought on by this busyness. Please continue to support your child in his/her school success by ensuring a bed time is maintained at a reasonable hour. Adequate sleep supports learning, brain development, concentration, and mood and so directly affects children’s success at school!
Another major factor in determining student academic success is providing each student academic consistency. This happens naturally when students attend school on a daily basis, but during these “distance learning” times, we need to maintain a strong home to school partnership. Please continue to encourage your child to maintain academic hours at home, and create a schedule that allows them to grow in their understanding of their academics. Additionally, I want to emphasize that our teachers are available to answer questions, or assist in your child’s academic needs throughout each school day. Please feel free to reach out by email if you need their assistance. Also, make sure your child attends their scheduled daily virtual meetings with their teachers. Thank you for the assistance and encouragement you continue to provide your child at home. Together, we can continue to meet the needs of your child during this time of social distancing.
As the principal of Jefferson, I have to say that I am extremely proud of our entire educational community. We have all worked together over the past several months to create a unique and special virtual learning environment for our students. Our teaching staff is putting in countless hours planning and organizing materials in order to reach all of their students’ academic and emotional needs. Most of us are disappointed that we are not at school to enjoy the friendly interactions, and special events that take place on a daily basis, but we are also making the most out of the situation. Sometimes, it's times like these to help us put things into perspective, and we start to learn to appreciate some of the little things in life.
Thank you for doing your part in making Jefferson Elementary School a very special place!
