If your student will need to take a medication during the school day, please have your child’s provider fill out and sign the appropriate form below. These can then be returned to the office or faxed by the provider to: 920-424-7583.

REMINDERS:

• Stock Epi-pens do NOT go on field trips. 

• Please fill out an Emergency Epi-Pen/Anaphylaxis Plan even if you don’t have a personal Epi at school.

• PRN medications (Ibuprofen, Tyelnol, Tums etc.) must come in a New and  unopened Bottle.

• Is your child up to date with their immunizations? Please contact the doctor for physicals and immunizations! All students at Jefferson are required to have their Tdap, Polio, MMR, Varicella and Hep B! Please check with your doctor to see what wellness requirements are needed for your child.

A Letter from the Health Office - Fall into Healthy Habits

As the season changes, temperatures start to drop and the days get shorter.  We are surrounded by the cooler breezes, the changes of the leaves with bright and brilliant colors and the beauty of nature's sounds. In order to remain healthy and strong, here are a few tips for the fall season. 

 

Warm Clothes for Cold Weather

Brrrr….the weather is changing please have your children dress in the appropriate warm clothes.  Children should wear a warm jacket or sweatshirt, hat and gloves on cold days.

Lip Balm/Chapstick

Is it the time of the year again when your lips can get dry, red and cracked.  It is important to use lip balm/chapstick to keep your lips moist and hydrated.  Avoid licking your lips as this will only exacerbate the problem.

Dry Hands/Skin

As we all know the changes of the season can bring dry hands and skin.  It is important to use lotion to keep our hands and skin moist.  Drinking lots of water will also help our dry hands, skin and body stay healthy and strong.

Cold and Flu Season

Wash your hands - Washing your hands is the first and best defense to protect yourself against germs.  Use Hand Sanitizer to help stop the spread of germs.  School age children should get between 9 to 12 hours of sleep a night.  Drink lots of water to keep your body healthy and safe.  Talk to your Pediatrician about yearly vaccinations to protect against diseases.

It’s officially spooky season! In art when we are done with our previous projects that we started at the beginning of the year, we will be moving onto Halloween inspired projects. Kindergarten and 1st grade will be starting Painted Paper Pumpkins. Students will get to explore painting with tempera paint and collage. In 2nd grade and 3rd grade students will start Warm and Cool Pastel Monsters. They will get to choose what color scheme they want to explore, and then create monsters with warm or cool colored pastels. In 4th and 5th grade students will begin a project
called Tim Burton Charcoal Self Portraits. Students will get to transform themselves into their own Tim Burton characters with exaggerated features and later add charcoal to accentuate their
self portraits.

 

Hello! My name is Mrs. Cibula and I am the music teacher at Jefferson Elementary School. This is my 5th year in the Oshkosh Area School District, and my 15th year of teaching music overall. I am looking forward to a year filled with singing, dancing, and active music making! I also look forward to connecting with each of your children throughout the school year. Throughout the month of September, we will be reviewing rhythmic and melodic concepts through a variety of songs; including singing, dancing, instrument playing, and many more engaging activities. The Media Center has many fun activities going on in October including crafts that go along with the read aloud or book trailer and a fall ISpy competition.  Encourage your child to take part in one or more of the activities.

Battle of the books is being offered again this year. Students who join will read books from a list of 12 books. Practice games to review book plots will begin late October. If your child is interested in joining the battle please remind them to sign up in the library or with Mrs. Kese.  Only 4th and 5th grade students can participate. Here are the 12 books that are part of this year’s competition.  Students who want to compete should be checking out and reading the books in the library or on SORA.  

Digital Citizenship week is October 16-20th. Digital Citizenship week will serve as a "kick off" for the OASD's digital citizenship curriculum. 5 Safety Tips for Kids 

1. Don’t give out personal information 

2. Never send pictures to strangers 

3. Keep passwords private, except for parents 

4. Don’t download anything without your parents permission 

5. Tell an adult if you receive a mean or strange message - don't respond and save the evidence

As a parent or guardian, there are many things you can do to make sure that you’re supporting and growing your child’s literacy skills at home every day. Here are a few easy ideas:

 

 Things You Can Do to Raise a Reader 

1. Read from day one. Start a reading routine in those very first days with a newborn.

2. Share books every day. Read with your child every day, even after he or she becomes an independent reader. 

3. Reread favorites. Most children love to hear their favorite stories over and over again. Rereading books provides an opportunity to hear or see something that may have been missed the last time and provides another chance to hear a favorite part. 

4. Visit the library early and often. Make visiting the library part of your family’s routine. 

5. Find reading and writing in everyday things. Take the time to show your child ways that adults use reading and writing every day.

6. Talk, talk, talk. A child’s vocabulary grows through rich conversations with others. No matter your child’s age, narrate what you’re doing, talk in full sentences, and add interesting words into your conversation.

Many family online resources are available to you as you learn more about your child’s math curriculum, Bridges in Mathematics. Below are the steps to navigating Math Learning Center’s online resource along with information on an additional supplemental resource Dreambox. 

1.  Go to www.mathlearningcenter.org  Here you will find six tabs. The For Families tab provides unit overviews for each grade level as well as additional family blogs and article resources.

2. Next, select the Bridges Family Support  and then the grade level you would like to learn more about.              Here you will be able to view Unit Overview, FAQ’s and ways families can help with math.

 

3. In the Home Learning Resources  you will find additional  online math games activities by grade level to support your child in building  math skills at home. 

 

                                                                                                                                                                                           

4. I would like to highlight the Math Learning Center FREE APPS that are found under the Apps  tab.  These are wonderful tools for students to help model and work through math problems. These are very helpful for students in explaining their math thinking and reasoning. Many of the apps are digital models of the hands on tools that the students utilize in the classroom. Be sure to check them out! They are AMAZING!
